Fontaines 5 College Football Week 5 Breakdown

Buckle up, Fontaine’s crew, because Week 5 of college football is here i have some fire picks ready to make your weekend legendary. We’ve got everything from totals, spreads, and even some sneaky underdog plays that could turn your Saturday into a cash-filled fiesta. Let’s dive into the matchups you need to keep your eye on this weekend!

Under 53.5 Kentucky @ Ole Miss

We’re starting with an intriguing SEC matchup where Kentucky meets the explosive offense of Ole Miss. Yes, the Rebels can light up the scoreboard, but Kentucky has quietly been one of the better defenses this season. With Kentucky’s offense looking sluggish against top competition and Ole Miss possibly having to carry the scoring load, I see this game finishing well under the total. The final score? Something like 41-10 or even 34-17. Keep it safe with the Under 53.5 here.

Over 64.5 Colorado @ UCF

Deion Sanders’ Colorado squad hasn’t had the offensive explosion that many expected, but this is a perfect bounce-back spot. Central Florida loves to run and gun, and they are letting teams walk all over their defense. Expect this one to be high-flying with both teams getting into the upper 20s or low 30s, which should be more than enough to clear the 64.5 total. A little sprinkle on the over might turn your Saturday into a payday.

Texas State (-8) @ Sam Houston State

Sam Houston is 3-1, but don’t let that record fool you. They’ve taken some heavy L’s, including a blowout loss to UCF. Texas State has had 16 days to prepare for this game, and you better believe they’ll be fired up and ready to roll. Led by QB Jordan McCloud, they’ll look to put up big numbers early and often. I’m taking Texas State -8 to cover with ease.

North Carolina (+2.5) @ Duke

We all know Duke has started 4-0, but don’t let that fool you into thinking they’ll keep their streak alive. UNC is coming off a tough game where they gave up 53 points in a half, but this is the perfect rivalry game to turn things around. Historically, the Tar Heels dominate Duke, and they’ve won the Victory Bell five straight times. It’s a close line, but UNC +2.5 has just enough value to roll with the Heels for the upset.

Old Dominion (+9.5) @ Bowling Green

Old Dominion is coming off a bye, and while Bowling Green has shown some competitiveness, this feels like a classic spot where the underdog covers a big spread. ODU is no powerhouse, but they can do just enough to keep this game tight. With both teams struggling, expect a gritty game. Don’t be afraid to sprinkle a little on ODU +9.5, or even bump it up to +10 if you can find it.

Northern Illinois (+6.5) @ NC State

Northern Illinois came out flat against Buffalo last week after pulling off the biggest win in their school’s history. They won’t make that mistake again. NC State has been getting bullied all season and hasn't shown much promise. This could be the game where Northern Illinois reminds people they’re still a solid squad. I’m grabbing NIU +6.5 to keep it close.

UConn (-6.5) vs. Buffalo

Buffalo had a nice win last week, but UConn has been improving each week. This non-conference matchup should favor the Huskies, who rank significantly higher on both sides of the ball. Buffalo’s offense is a mess, and I don’t see them keeping up with UConn here. Lock in UConn -6.5 with confidence.

Michigan (-9.5) vs. Minnesota

Michigan’s running game is unstoppable, and Minnesota’s run defense is in shambles. This is a recipe for disaster for the Gophers. The Wolverines should pound the ball all night and win convincingly. I see Michigan winning by double digits, so jump on Michigan -9.5 before the line moves.

UNLV (-2) vs. Fresno State

Despite some internal drama for UNLV, the numbers suggest they’ll be fine, especially considering the backup QB for Fresno State has struggled. UNLV is weak on defense but should make enough plays to cover the short spread here. Take UNLV -2 in what could be a surprisingly high-scoring game.
