Week 2 Waiver Wire Targets – Don’t Blow Your Budget Too Early!

Week 2 is in the books, and the NFL season is just heating up. After the dust has settled, it's time to hit that waiver wire and make some strategic moves, but don’t overspend on waiver priority or budget this early in the season. Save your resources for those impactful RBs who can be game-changers later down the line.

Here are three running backs to consider adding to your team after Week 2:

#1 Kansas City RBs

With Isiah Pacheco leaving Week 2 on crutches due to an ankle injury, both Carson Steele and Samaje Perine are must-adds, especially since they are available in over 95% of leagues.

  • Perine is a reliable veteran who ranked 2nd in the NFL last season in yards per touch. Expect him to see passing-down work and be trusted in pass protection.

  • Steele, on the other hand, is a big, bruising 230-pound back with serious red zone appeal. He’s had a productive college career with over 1700 rushing yards and could get valuable touches.

One caveat: Clyde Edwards-Helaire may return in a couple of weeks, but until then, these guys are solid pickups.

#2 Ty Chandler (Minnesota Vikings)

Chandler is available in 71% of leagues and just ran for 82 yards on only 10 carries. With Aaron Jones leaving Week 2 due to injury (though he returned), Chandler is shaping up to be a durable RB option moving forward.

The Vikings RB boasts speed and explosiveness, with three massive runs in Week 2, making him an excellent stash for the long term.

#3 Antonio Gibson (New England Patriots)

Gibson is sitting on the waiver wire in 84% of leagues. While Rhamondre Stevenson is clearly the RB1 in New England, Gibson’s value has risen sharply, thanks to his 100+ yards performance in Week 2.

What makes him appealing is the Patriots' revamped rushing attack, which is being led by new play-caller Alex Van Pelt (former Browns OC). With a history of success under Van Pelt, this run game could see both backs being relevant, and Gibson becomes a high-upside FLEX option should Stevenson miss time.

Deep League Options:

  • Cam Akers: If Dameon Pierce or Joe Mixon miss time, Akers could be worth a look.

  • Jaylen Wright: Both Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson are injured.

  • Julius Chestnut: With Tyjae Spears potentially out after Week 2, Chestnut could be worth a stash.
