Here’s the read. I watch a lot of Timberwolves basketball, and one trend has become very clear over the past few weeks: Rudy Gobert is sliding under nearly every pick-and-roll regardless of the opposing center. It makes sense because of his elite rim protection, but it also opens up pick-and-pop opportunities — and teams have started to punish Minnesota for it.

Just two games ago, Golden State’s Quinten Post took 11 three-point attempts against the Wolves, the most he’s attempted in a game this season. Minnesota was content letting him float to the perimeter rather than allowing drives into Gobert, and that exact defensive approach sets up well for Landale tonight.

With Ja Morant still out, Vince Williams Jr. has stepped into a major facilitation role, and Memphis has leaned into ball movement and spacing. That’s creating clean pick-and-pop looks for their bigs, and Landale fits that role perfectly.

Landale himself is shooting 27-for-63 from deep this season (42.9%). While the volume isn’t massive, he has attempted two or more threes in 22 of 26 games. Against an extreme rim-protecting big, with extra usage available and a facilitator willing to find him, the quality of looks should be there.
